On this outreach day, the Youth Uplift Initiative (YUP Initiative) visited Muhima Hospital with a simple mission: to help someone in need. Without a predetermined beneficiary, the team asked hospital staff to identify a patient facing urgent hardship.
They were introduced to a 21-year-old young mother who had just endured the devastating loss of her newborn child. Beyond the emotional trauma she was experiencing, she was also unable to leave the hospital because her medical bill of 120,000 RWF remained unpaid.
The YUP team had initially brought 50,000 RWF, along with hygiene supplies and essential support materials. These items were immediately given to the mother, and the available funds were paid toward the bill.
Determined to help her regain her freedom and dignity, the team committed to raising the remaining 70,000 RWF the same day. Through outreach and the generosity of partners and supporters—including the support of Dumari Foundation—the remaining funds were successfully mobilized.
Later that day, the team returned to the hospital and cleared the bill in full, allowing the young mother to finally leave the hospital and begin the difficult process of healing.
This moment served as a powerful reminder that even small acts of generosity can create life-changing impact. The event reinforced YUP’s mission of mobilizing communities to support vulnerable individuals through compassion, action, and solidarity.
